FAQS & STUDIO POLICIES

  • What is the difference between waxing and shaving?
Waxing removes the hair from the follicle by the root. With regular wax services, the hair becomes finer, softer, and will grow back slower. Shaving simply cuts the hair at the skin's surface never affecting the structure of the hair itself. Typically, after you shave the hair starts to grow back immediately.
  • What is the difference between soft wax and hard wax?
Soft wax is applied to the skin and removed with a strip of muslin or cloth. We typically use soft waxes on larger areas such as the back or legs. Hard isdesigned to be more gentle than soft wax. Hard waxis used on more sensitive areassuch as the face or bikini area. Itdoes not have the same sticky residue as softwaxandfocuses on shrink wrapping the hair instead of sticking to the skin and hair. This generally results in a more comfortable experience for the guest and a better, less irritating result for the skin.
  • Is waxing painful?
The first time you wax will always be the most uncomfortable because you have the most hair. However, everyone has a different level of pain tolerance and the discomfort typically improveswhen you wax consistently over time. We do everything possible for the experience to be as quick and painless as possible. Top quality wax and years of experience make your waxing experience at Ora Beauty & Wellness Studio the best that it can be!
  • How long does waxing last?
Most individuals experience at least twoweeks without hair before experiencing re-growth. Theseresults can be expected after a minimum of three consecutive (monthly) waxes. There are three different hair growth cycles and the best, longest lasting results occur after all three have been waxed.
  • Will my hair get darker or coarser if I wax?
The only change you should see in your hair is becoming finer, thinner, softer and more sparse. Waxing will not make your hair (on the face or body) grow back thicker or darker. That is a myth!
  • Is it safe to wax or get a facial if I am using Retin-A or other medications?
Please discuss the use of all topical skin care (including Retin A, Renova,Differin, ProActiv, Glycolic/Salicylic/Lactic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide) items with your Esthetician before your wax or facial. Many skin care ingredients increase the rate of cell turnover, and therefore creates a higher risk of lifting the skin, redness, and potential reaction. All guests must be off of Accutane for a minimum of 12 months prior to any waxing services or chemical peels. Make sure to discuss any oral medications you are taking as well. Antibiotics, steroids, thyroid medication, chemotherapy treatments, etc. can all affect your results.
  • How should I prepare for my wax appointment?
Exfoliate the area to be waxed every other day up to 48 hours prior to the service. Keeping the skin exfoliated and moisturized improves your waxing results. Be clean and free of heavy lotions on the day of your wax. View more waxing instructions here.
  • How long do I need to let my hair grow before getting waxed?
It is hard to say exactly how many days is appropriate after your last shave because everyone's hair grows at different rates. The hair must be at least ¼ of an inch long (a grain of rice) for the wax to grab the hair. On average, 10-14 days of growth is enough. It’s better for the hair to be too long rather than too short.
  • Can I get waxed if I am on my period?
Absolutely. Please make sure to have a new/clean tampon inserted immediately before your service. Please understand that some people experience a higher level of discomfort while getting waxed due to hormones (especially a few days before the beginning your period). If you are concerned about the discomfort, please feel free to reschedule at least 8 hours in advance to avoid cancellation charges.
  • Can I have services done if I am pregnant?
Absolutely! If you have previously had massages, facials or waxing, and have recently found out you are pregnant, there is no reason to change. If you have never had a massage, facial, or waxing before and are considering services during your pregnancy, please discuss the risks with your doctor and obtain prior approval. For waxing, there is no contraindication to getting waxed while pregnant. Our only recommendation is not to wait. Waiting until you are 8 months along will be uncomfortable and difficult. Start waxing now so you can enjoy all the great benefits throughout your pregnancy!
  • Can I bring someone in the room with me?
We understand there is anxiety and nervousness for first time visitors, but due to board standards set by the state of Michigan, only one person may be in a service room at a time.
  • Can I take a photo or video of my treatment?
Pictures, video, and/or audio is not permitted unless otherwise approved.
  • I’ve never had a facial, what should I expect?"
We strive to make all our guests feel right at home. In the first few minutes of your appointment your Esthetician will get to know your skin and your skin goals. You can expect to have all your questions answered and all your concerns addressed. We want you to feel confident in the treatment option you choose. However, if you are unsure of which treatment is best for you, your Esthetician can recommend the best facial for your skin type and goals. We know you are going to love your results! We also keep a supply of amazing skin care products on hand for you to purchase so you can continue to enjoy all the benefits of your treatment by caring for your skin at home.
  • I’m a new client and requested an appointment online but did not get a confirmation email. Is my appointment automatically confirmed?
New guests to the studio MUST receive a confirmation email from ORA to confirm your appointment. If you have not received a confirmation email, text, or call, your appointment is not in our system. When appointments are requested online, a notification is sent to us right away and we typically respond quickly to those requests. However, if it has been more than 2 hours since you requested your appointment and you have not received a confirmation message, please email or call the spa to see if your request went through. You must go through all of the online booking steps in order for your request to be completed. This includes filling out and signing all required forms. You should see the message “Your Appointment Has Been Requested” to indicate that your request was sent to us. If you don’t see that message, it did not go through. If you have difficulties making appointments for any reason, please give us a call or email us at experienceora@gmail.com and we will be happy to assist you.
